Roundhouse Work - August 1999

The work below was performed at
the Altoona, Wisconsin roundhouse.

Setting up tram boards on the left side. The device in the center of the cylinder has a wire attached to it. This wire is strung through the cylinder to a point at the rear of the frame. The bolts allow adjustment to fine-tune the wire to its proper alignment within the cylinder.

"Tramming" is a term for using a series of taut wires or strings as a reference to measure points of interest along a path. The proper word is trammel.
