This former Soo Line Wide Vision Caboose was built in
1973 by the International Car Co. An excellent article highlighting
the background of these cars was in the
Fall 2000 issue of "
The SOO", entitled
"Soo Line's Wide-Vision Cupola Cabooses"
by Bryan Alden and Jason Korth,
available for reading at the
Soo Line Historical & Technical Society
website.
The Locomotive & Tower Preservation Fund, Ltd. acquired this car from the CP Rail Corp. in early 1999 for the purpose of creating a safety awareness program to be used throughout the communities here in the upper Midwest.
|
The program is called "
Keep Your Kids On Track". The program was developed in cooperation
with the Chippewa Valley School Districts, city and county
law enforcement agencies, the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Railroad,
and "Operation Lifesaver". The theme for the project is safety awareness
through extra curricular participation in the "Arrive Alive",
"Students Against Drunk Drivers", "D.A.R.E.", school crossing guards
and other recognized programs.
The program is expected to become an annual event culminating in a special excursion for all participants who successfully complete one of the sponsored safety programs.
